From two fractured vertebrae to running an ultramarathon, hopefully within a year of recovery. Raising money for Care to Dance, a social enterprise that supports care-experienced young people through dance.
On January 10th 2023, I, Beth Vecchione Founder and Director of Care to Dance, was in a car accident resulting in two fractured vertebrae alongside quite significant concussion. My treatment is to be in a spinal brace for three months and I am very limited in what I am able to do. What better way to focus my energy than to set myself the hardest challenge I have ever completed - to run an ultramarathon within a year of recovery! This is all with the purpose to raise money for Care to Dance.
I am extremely thankful for all of the support I have received after the accident resulting in my injuries. However, sadly this is not something that many care-experienced young people experience. As such, I would like to raise awareness of the importance that every young person has a support network around them. Within Care to Dance, we aim to create a community around the young people we support, including positive friendships, trusted adult relationships whilst including their key adults along their journey with us. Our holistic approach aims to support young people to creatively express themselves and to feel a sense of belonging; something that every individual in society deserves.
